For the past few years we have been living in strange times. The things that people say and do sometimes just leaving me wondering, “How can anyone be that stupid?” And every time I think, “Well, it just can’t get any more stupid,” someone surprises me. A few weeks ago a “chaplain,” and I use that word loosely, ended his prayer opening the U.S. House of Representatives’ session saying, “Amen!” And then after a dramatic pause said, “Awomen.” LOL! ROFL!
The word “AMEN” has nothing to do with gender. DID YOU GET THAT? NOTHING TO DO WITH GENDER! The word “amen” in Hebrew is “āmēn.” It is a word that is used to close a legal contract. A word which says, “This document is TRUTHFUL and both parties agree to its content.” The word “āmēn” in Hebrew means “certainty, truth, verily.”
In the Greek language, the language the New Testament was written in, the word is, “Amin.” It is a word used at the end of a discourse which means: “MAY THIS TRUTH BE FULFILLED.”
The New Testament was then translated into Latin and the word “amen” is the same as in Hebrew and Greek, and it means, “THIS IS MOST CERTAINLY TRUE.”
If you have truly studied theology, if you have truly studied the Bible, if you have studied a word from the Bible in the languages that it was written in, then you would know that AMEN HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GENDER!
What it says about this “chaplain” is that he is A) Uneducated; B) Trying to be cute; or C) Purposely distorting the Bible to make some point which is not even relevant. In any of the three possibilities, this “chaplain” has made a mockery of his “calling.” We hear over and over again, “Don’t bring religion into politics.” Well then...don’t bring politics into religion.
This nation is at a crossroads right now. Like Israel in 1400 B.C., this nation is lost in the Wilderness, and to misuse the Word of God to make it be cute or to make some point, is to make a mockery of the Bible and the Faith as well. This kind of preaching/teaching only diminishes the Word of God and our Faith, and makes true pastors and true believers look foolish.
