I saw this quote the other day, “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” I began to think about the people who God called into His service: Noah was a drunk, Abraham was old, Sarah was impatient, Jacob was a cheater, Moses stuttered, Gideon was insecure, David had an affair, Elijah was moody, Jonah ran from God, Peter had a temper, Thomas was a doubter, Mary Magdalene was possessed, Martha was a worrier, Zacchaeus was short, Lazarus was dead, Paul was a persecutor, and Isaiah was given to use profanity.

No CEO would have hired anyone of those mentioned above. The world wants movers and shakers. The world wants people who have proven that they are successful and wield power. Those in power, those who are wealthy, those who have achieved positions of authority look down on everyone else. They are self-made individuals. They have pulled themselves up by their own boot straps. But the truth is that God doesn’t really care what the world thinks.

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1: 27 “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.” God did not choose a mighty, all powerful person to be the Messiah. God chose a humble man who came to serve and not be served. God chose a man who loved those who could do nothing for him. God chose a man who trusted in God instead of trusting in himself.

I think the message of the Word of God is profound, in that God would not call us for a particular task if He was not going to give us the help and the skill to serve Him and the Church. When called by God, rest assured God will give us what we need to finish the mission He has called us to.
