Apart from the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I believe that the Apostle Paul is the most significant person in the Christian faith. No one in the history of Christendom did more to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ than the Apostle Paul.
After Acts 9, Paul is the main character of the book. Every book of the Bible from 1 Corinthians to Philemon is a call to faith in Jesus Christ. The book of Romans is perhaps one of the best, if not the best book in the Second Testament. The book breathes “God’s grace.” It is a masterpiece and if we had no other book in the Second Testament than Romans, we would still have the foundation for the Christian faith.
Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth gives us a solid explanation of the Sacrament of the Holy Communion and it also takes a deep dive into the whole teaching of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise of the resurrection for all believers.
His letter to the Galatians talks of the oneness of all of God’s people, Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, all are one in Christ Jesus. Ephesians shows us the importance of leadership in the church and the power of the Word of God. All of Paul’s books give us keen insight into the fundamentals of the faith and the importance of leadership within the congregation.
Philippians, along with many of his letters were written while he was in prison awaiting trial before the Emperor for his crimes against the state and his preaching and disruptions in synagogues and cities. The charges against him were many. Despite a death sentence, Paul never waivered from his faith in Jesus Christ. Whether he lived or whether he died, he belonged to Jesus Christ and no power on, over, or under the earth was going to change that.
